We run a lending business, and the software behind it is built in-house. We look for three things in an engineer: the ability to understand the financial mechanics, the craft to build the system properly, and the temperament to stand behind it when real money runs through it. The particular stack has never made anyone good; thinking clearly has. We can teach you lending, but we have never once taught anyone to be curious.
